Sports and activities in the Coniston area

This section is designed as a starting point, to give you some ideas about what is available rather than provide a huge resource of details. However as time goes on it should build into a useful collection of ideas.

There is good scope for abseiling in the Coniston area, the best source of information is the FRCC rock guide for the area

Biking

The quiet roads do lend themselves to cycling and there are a number of very good guides published by the Ordnance Survey. Also see mountain biking below.

Boating

Coniston Water is popular with watersport and boating enthusiasts, it is the home of the Coniston boating centre where rowboats, motor boats, sailing dinghies and canoes can all be hired to enjoy on the lovely lake, which has the gentle speed limit of 10mph

Climbing (Rock climbing)

The high fells, lower crags and disused quarries provide a huge scope for climbing in the area around Consiton. The FRCC rock guides provide the best source of information with Rockfax lending itself toward the local sports routes
